Final Conference of the DECK Project to Take Place During the ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Milan
The Final Conference of the Developing Environmental and Circular Knowledge (DECK) project will take place on August 21, 2025, during the ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships at the iconic Idroscalo venue in Milan, Italy.
Organised within the ICF's flagship event, the Final Conference will showcase the outcomes and legacy of the DECK project, which was launched in 2023 and co-funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Sport programme. The initiative, led by the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation (FICK) with the support of the International Canoe Federation (ICF), aims to establish environmental standards for sustainable canoeing events.
Throughout the Championships (August 20–24), the DECK project will be actively implemented, including the deployment of operational tools such as the Sustainability Rafting Tool, designed to assess the sustainability level of the event, and a Life Cycle Assessment evaluating the full environmental impact of the competition.
The Final Conference will offer a comprehensive overview of the project’s objectives and results, starting with a welcome session from FICK and ICF. FICK will present the project’s vision and framework, followed by key findings shared by Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, and dissemination activities illustrated by Sport e Salute.

A panel discussion will explore the impact of the DECK project across partner organisations and its future sustainability implications. Representatives from the national canoe federations of Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy, alongside Sport e Salute, will contribute their perspectives.
The DECK project is the result of a close and collaborative effort among the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation (FICK), Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Scuola dello Sport (Sport e Salute Spa), and the national federations of Greece, Croatia, and Slovenia, with the strategic support of the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
The Final Conference will begin at 10:00 AM.
It will be possible to attend either in person at the event venue or remotely via livestream.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is mandatory in order to receive access details and logistical information.
